New court date coming for Asia Bibi

She's facing the death penalty after being accused of insulting Islam - something she denies.

Her case has gone to the country's highest court but her hearing was postponed last year when one of the judges claimed he had a conflict of interest.

On Saturday, the Chief Justice of Pakistan confirmed a new hearing will be held soon and has ordered full security provisions to be given to Asia Bibi's legal team.

Those who support or speak out on behalf of the woman are often targeted by extremists.

Politician Salman Taseer was assassinated back in 2011 after defending her.

Speaking about the hearing development, Wilson Chowdhry, Chairman of the British Pakistani Christian Association, said: "The fact that the Chief Justice Saqib Nisar is responsible for the case is encouraging as he recently set up a complaints office for minorities in Lahore Supreme Court and for all intents and purposes seems genuinely committed to helping minority plaintiffs.

"However I will reserve my judgement till the trial is complete and Asia is set free. Only freedom for Asia Bibi would convince me of the integrity of his efforts, as any other decision would simply be malicious."
