A Muslim man allegedly beat and burned his daughter after she had converted from Islam to Christianity.
24-year-old Rehema Kyomuhendo is recovering at a hospital in Uganda after sustaining burn injuries to her legs, stomach, ribs, neck and lower back.
According to religious watchdog the Morning Star News, the woman's father Sheikh Hussein Byaruhanga had used fuel from a jerrycan to burn his daughter on 4th May, after learning that she had become a Christian.
Kyomuhendo says her father overheard her speaking on the phone to a Catholic as she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour, at which point he entered her room and "furiously started beating [her] up with blows, slaps and kicks" before threatening to kill her and burning her with lighter fluid.
At the time of the alleged assault, she had been staying at her aunt's house while accompanying her father on a business trip to Uganda's Mbale District.
Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, Kyomuhendo had been unable to travel back to her home in the Mbarara District.
Following the attack Kyomuhendo's aunt took her to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital with the help of a Christian neighbour.
The pair have allegedly not reported the assault to police for fear Kyomuhendo's father may kill her.
