The daughter of pop icon Michael Jackson is set to depict Jesus as a lesbian in a new indie film. Paris Jackson, 22, will star in the movie 'Habit' alongside Bella Thorne.
According to a press release on the film, Thorne will play a "street smart, party girl with a Jesus fetish [who] gets mixed up in a violent drug deal and finds a possible way out by masquerading as a Nun". Eventually, Thorne's character ends up getting involved romantically with Jackson's - a detail that has sparked outrage among some Christians.
Following news of the upcoming release, a number of petitions surfaced calling the film blasphemous and seeking for it to be axed immediately.
One, set up by 'Movieguide', a non-profit that advocates for a resurgence of Christian values in movies and entertainment, says the movie is "unacceptable to believers around the country and the globe", and is seeking after supporters to help them "stop Hollywood attacks on Jesus".
Others have made their voices known in the comments section of a trailer for the new film, with one writing:
"Don't insult Jesus. And that's what this movie looks like."
Another added: "So many Christians have been killed and persecuted for their faith, even today, and yet the "compassionate" and "open-minded" Hollywood keeps mocking Jesus so terribly."
There is no official release date for the movie at this time.
