'Make America pray again’: Donald Trump becomes a Bible seller

by Lydia Davies

Donald Trump, the former US President, has promoted a special edition of the Bible.

Mr Trump is now endorsing the God Bless the USA Bible, with the name of the Bible drawing inspiration from Lee Greenwood's patriotic anthem ‘God bless the USA’.

In a recent post to his own social media platform, Truth Social, Mr Trump extended Easter greetings and urged followers to acquire the Bible.

"Happy Holy Week! Let’s make America pray again. As we lead into Good Friday and Easter, I encourage you to get a copy of the God Bless the USA Bible" Mr Trump wrote.

According to its sales page, the $60 (£47) Bible offers large print for easy reading and a design that “encourages exploration of God’s word”. It includes the 'God bless the USA' chorus, foundational US documents, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Trump's association with the Bible isn't without controversy. His visit to St John’s Church during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protest, Bible in hand, sparked criticism. Critics, including President Joe Biden, accused him of using the Bible as a “prop”.

In a video accompanying his post, Trump passionately talked about Christianity's importance in America, suggesting that a decline in religious observance is at the heart of national issues.

He said: “All Americans need a Bible in their home and I have many; it’s my favourite book!”

Mr Trump warned of perceived threats to Christianity and urged action to restore faith's prominence in America.

He endorsed the Bible as part of an effort to “Make America pray again", positioning it as essential for those seeking to uphold Judeo-Christian values amid societal challenges.
