Grammy-winning Christian artist Lauren Daigle has recalled being challenged for her faith by a music executive.

Daigle, who is known for hits including You Say and Look Up Child, told Fox News that she was questioned on her commitment to the Christian message by a senior industry figure in New York.

“You’re a superstar. Why do you have to be Christian?” Daigle was asked.

“It was this moment of me laughing so hard because I knew what she was trying to say," she said. "Like, ‘we could really do something with this if you weren't Christian.’”

Daigle, however, is insistent upon her faith being part of her fame.

“I love the fact that I get to share this message,” she said.

The singer added that she has felt challenged in her career over catering to different fan bases. Whilst she has won two Grammys in Christian categories, Best Contemporary Christian Album and Best Contemporary Christian Song in 2019, her work has also succeeded on the Billboard Top 100 charts.

“Pressure can exist both ways,” she said. “Are you staying Christian enough for the Christians? Are you cool enough for the mainstream world, you know? All of the pressures can be spinning.”

Daigle added that surrounding herself with a good team has helped her stay grounded, adding: “I think if you stay authentic, those pressures get a lot smaller.”
