Popular podcast host Joe Rogan has challenged the logic behind the Big Bang theory while expressing openness to belief in Jesus Christ.
Speaking with TikTok personality Cody Tucker on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan pointed out a perceived double standard in how people view religious belief compared to scientific explanations about the universe's origins.
He said: "People will be incredulous about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but yet they're convinced that the entire universe was smaller than the head of a pin, and for no reason than anybody's ever adequately explained to me ... instantaneously became everything?"
Rogan, who previously described himself as "pretty atheist" following a difficult Catholic school experience, shared that the death of his grandfather reignited a curiosity about the soul and spiritual matters.
He said: "Seeing my grandfather in his casket, I started considering a soul."
In the episode, Rogan and Tucker discussed whether the universe could exist without a creator, or whether God and the universe could be one and the same.
Rogan suggested the idea that belief in something eternal might actually make more sense than believing in a spontaneous beginning from nothing.
"Wouldn't it be crazier if there wasn't something at one point in time?" he asked. "There couldn't be nothing and then all of a sudden everything."
Referencing a quote from ethnobotanist Terence McKenna, Rogan added: "Science only asks you for one miracle. It wants you to believe in one miracle—the Big Bang," later concluding: "I'm sticking with Jesus."
