'It's not even close': Donald Trump says Jesus is only one more famous than him

by Will Maule

Donald Trump has admitted that the only person more famous than him is the Lord Jesus himself.

Speaking at a rally in North Carolina, the US President said he realised this was the case when someone argued that he was the most recognisable person on the planet.

Trump recalled the conversation: "Someone said to me the other day, 'You're the most famous person in the world by far.' I said, 'no I'm not.’ ... They said, 'Who's more famous?'

“I said, 'Jesus Christ.'"

The president, who is currently trailing his Democratic rival Joe Biden in the polls, added that he would never contest to be more famous than Christ. “I’m not taking any chances,” he said. “I’m not having any arguments."

Trump then turned his face towards the sky: "Jesus Christ," he said. "Let me look up, and I’ll say, it’s not even close.”

His remarks were met with outbursts of applause and laughter.

In a recent tweet, President Trump argued that, if elected, his Democratic opponents will "drive God from the public square". Earlier this month, the presdent's son, Eric Trump, claimed that his father had "literally saved Christianity."

Trump continues to garner high levels of support among American Christians, with a new LifeWay Research poll showing that 53% of Protestant pastors plan to vote for him on 3rd November.

Biden, a practicing Catholic, has also gained support from the faith community - last week, more than 1,600 faith leaders endorsed him for president.

Fake News

On Friday morning, the President shared an article from Christian satire news site 'The Babylon Bee' appearing to believe that it was factual. The headline exclaimed: 'Twitter Shuts Down Entire Network To Slow Spread Of Negative Biden News'  - a tongue-in-cheek take on the controversy surrounding Twitter's recent censoring of stories related to Joe Biden's son, Hunter.

"Wow, this has never been done in history," Trump commented on the article. "This includes his really bad interview last night. Why is Twitter doing this. Bringing more attention to Sleepy Joe & Big T"

Commenters were quick to point out Trump's error. "Just checking in to gently remind you that this site is satire. You knew that, right?" one person replied.
