The son of President Donald Trump has claimed in an interview that his father saved the Christian faith from ruin. Eric Trump made the remarks during a radio interview last week, stating that the President "literally saved Christianity."
"He literally saved Christianity, there's a war on faith in this country by the other side," Trump told a radio station in the state of North Dakota, WZFG-AM. "I mean, the Democratic Party, the far left has become the party of the quote-unquote 'atheist', they want to attack Christianity, they want to close churches, they want to - they're totally fine keeping liquor stores open, but they want to close churches all over the country."
The younger Trump did not provide any specific examples of Democrats allegedly attempting to shut down churches, though he may have been referring to the rolling out of Covid-19 restrictions on in-person gatherings - some of which have affected places of worship.
In Democrat-dominated states like California, several large churches have struck back at orders forcing them to halt physical gatherings, claiming that the restrictions infringe their First Amendment rights to freely practice religion and peaceably assemble for that purpose.
