Israel-Kenya wall to help protect Christians from terrorism

by Aaron James

Construction of the 440-mile wall on the eastern border with Somalia began in March this year however it's only just been discovered that Israel is part of the building process.

According to The Times newspaper Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said after meeting with Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu: "Kenya and Israel, just like other nations of the world, are facing the challenges of terrorism and today was a great opportunity to discuss ways of dealing with the issues.

Kenyan Christians and wider society have been subject to numerous attacks from Somali-based Islamist group Al-Shabaab in recent years.

In 2013, terrorists from the group murdered at least 67 people at Westgate shopping centre in Nairobi.

In 2014, Al-Shabaab militants targeted Christians at Garissa University in the north-east of the country.

And earlier this year Muslims helped protect Christians on a bus ambushed by Al-Shabaab fighters, however two were murdered.

Critics of the wall say it will not stop terrorists entering the country and it will adversely affect nomadic cattle-herders.
