An Iranian Christian convert has been released from Evin Prison after serving more than 15 months of a two-year sentence for alleged links to “Zionist” Christian organizations.
Laleh Saati, 46, was freed on May 31 under strict conditions, including a media silence and a ban on contact with people outside Iran. She also faces a two-year travel ban, as reported by Middle East Concern.
Saati had originally left Iran and applied for asylum in Malaysia, where she was baptized and became active in Christian ministry.
However, after delays in her application, she returned home in 2017 to care for her aging parents.
She was arrested in February 2024 at her father’s home in Tehran and interrogated for three weeks.
Authorities reportedly used photos and videos of her Christian activity in Malaysia as evidence in court.
On March 16, she was convicted of “acting against national security.”
During her imprisonment, Saati was denied medical treatment, and concerns remain over her mental and physical well-being.
