Indonesia: Death row Australian marries pastor

Andrew Chan, 31, is one of nine people due to be executed by Indonesia for drug charges.

The eight foreigners and one Indonesian man were given 72-hour notices over the weekend that they were to die.

Mr Chan married Febyanti Herewila, an Indonesian Christian pastor, yesterday in a small service at Besi prison on Nusakambangan island.

The convict has himself become a pastor after turning to God when his death sentence was handed down.

He was ordained inside the prison in February.

Revd Christie Buckingham, who ordained him, told the Sydney Morning Herald: "I have never experienced a student like Andrew, and probably never will again.

"He is extraordinary. He has such a determination to learn, in fact almost a desperation.

"He is the real deal, and Myuran [Sukumaran] is as well. They are living proof that people can change, circumstances can change.

"Indonesia should be proud of the impact they are having,"

The Indonesian government is being urged to show mercy and drop the death penalty.

Christian Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has appeal for their lives to be spared.
