With hours to go until polls open in the US, Kamala Harris has told a church in Detroit that “God has a plan”, whilst Donald Trump accused the Democrat party of being “demonic”.
Harris delivered a short sermon based on Jeremiah 29:11. The verse reads: “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’”.
The presidential nominee smiled and nodded, telling the congregation at Detroit’s Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ that there is a “divine plan strong enough to heal division".
She continued: “It is not enough to only pray. Not enough to just talk. We must act.
“I see faith in action in remarkable ways… as I travel, I see Americans from so-called red states and so-called blue states who are ready to bend the arc of history toward justice.”
Vying for a blue-to-red transition was her rival Donald Trump. At Lancaster airport in Pennsylvania, he told a rally crown that the Democratic party had become “demonic”.
“It’s a very demonic party,” he said, “it’s become that way.”
He added: “The people aren’t, democrats.. regular democrats aren’t. Most of them agree with what I’m saying.”
The former president then went on to question the legitimacy of the upcoming election before polls have even opened, saying: “They’re going to fight over it. They call you a horrible person and … all of the things they call cons. ‘Conspiracy theorist – he’s a conspiracy theorist’ – they don’t acknowledge they cheated.
“Think of it, they’re spying on me. They say ‘Russia… he’s involved with Russia!’”
Polls open at 7am local time on Tuesday 5th November.
