The daughter of an imprisoned pastor in China has publicly thanked President Donald Trump after he said Chinese President Xi Jinping was giving “very serious consideration” to the release of her father, Pastor Ezra Jin.
In a social media post shared on Friday, Drexel wrote: “Dear President Trump, from our family, thank you so much...” She appeared in the video alongside her husband, Bill Drexel.
In a video recording with her husband alongside her, Drexel said: “Dear President Trump, our family is beyond grateful for your leadership and for pressing the case of my father, Pastor Ezra Jin, during your historic visit to Beijing this week.”
They added: “To hear that President Xi is now seriously considering his release, we have no words. It feels like a miracle. Thank you for continuing to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.”
President Trump said on Friday that Xi was giving “very serious consideration” to the case following his recent visit to China.
Pastor Ezra Jin, founder of the underground Zion Church in Beijing, was arrested in October 2025 during a wider crackdown on unregistered Christian groups.
Chinese authorities also detained other church staff and members at the same time.
Drexel has previously said the family’s fight for her father’s release has been difficult, including challenges in accessing legal representation, but added that they had remained hopeful throughout his detention.
