Glasgow church praying for 'sinner' who stole Foodbank supplies

by Donna Birrell

A church in Glasgow says it’s praying for the person who stole its foodbank supplies.

Volunteers at the Free Church of Scotland on Holmfauldhead Place in Govan say they are saddened by the raid but would “pray for the sinner.”

The burglary was discovered when volunteers arrived at the church on Thursday morning. They found the door had been forced open and food stolen - but they were still determined to continue operating the facility.

A volunteer said: "We were adamant that the foodbank should go ahead as it's not the people who need the food's fault. We did manage to get a new supply of food and also operate on the biggest scale so far – over 50 people were helped out.

"We were more than happy that they couldn't lift a lot away. However, the damages to the church doors are going to cost the congregation a lot to have repaired.

"Food was scattered around the place and lying at the front door as if to be taken. We as a church are praying for the sinner as any good Christian would."

Police have launched an investigation into the burglary.
