Giant model of baby Jesus unveiled ahead of Catholic celebration in Mexico

by Sophie Drew

Workers in Mexico City are preparing for the Feast of Candelaria by placing a giant model of the baby Jesus in the city.

Members of the Roman Catholic church are due to gather in dedication to the Virgin of Candelaria, otherwise known as the Virgin Mary.

Although this statue is being placed in Mexico City, the centre of the worship celebration is found in Candelaria, Tenerife.

The Virgin Mary is the patron saint of the Canary Islands and is celebrated twice a year, on February 2 and August 15.

In the Philippines, the celebration spans from February 1 to February 3.
