Arsenal’s latest signing, Eberechi Eze, has described his high-profile return to the club as the fulfilment of a prayer made more than 20 years ago.
The 26-year-old England international joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace in a £67.5 million transfer, saying his journey reflects God’s faithfulness and is “the realisation of a prayer we prayed 20 odd years ago.”
Eze was released from Arsenal’s academy at 13 but has now returned to the club he supported as a boy. In an exclusive interview with former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, Eze shared how his Christian faith and his mother’s prayers have shaped his career.
“For me, this is a realisation of a prayer we prayed 20-odd years ago… I can see God’s hand in it. I know it’s meant to be,” he said.
Eze recalled the moment he was let go as a teenager: “I remember the day I got released; my mum said a prayer, that this reverse would happen.”
Now regarded as one of English football’s most exciting midfielders, Eze has been open about his Christian faith and the influence of prayer in his life.
Beyond football, Eze is passionate about giving back to his community. In 2024, he launched The Eze Foundation, a charitable organisation supporting schoolchildren in London through career opportunities, internships and an annual free football tournament.
“I don’t want this privilege to go to waste,” he said. “I’m thankful I have a platform that can help me help other people.”
Eze was officially unveiled by Arsenal ahead of their match against Leeds United and is expected to make his debut this Sunday against Liverpool.
