EXCLUSIVE: Donald Trump's pastor says President prays to God about decisions like travel ban

Pastor Mark Burns from Harvest Praise & Worship Center in South Carolina has been responding to criticism of the President's immigration directive, which imposes a temporary travel ban on seven mainly-Muslim countries.

On Monday, international development charity Christian Aid said the ban was a "rejection of Christian values".

Tom Viita, its head of advocacy said: "At the heart of the Christian faith is a clear command to 'love the stranger' and to stand with the vulnerable, whoever they may be.

"To follow Christian teaching means to welcome people in need - whatever their faith - not prioritise people who happen to share one's own beliefs.

"A rejection of refugees, whatever their faith, is a rejection of Christian values. Trump would do well to read his bible before enacting discriminatory policies."

Pastor Burns said it was unfair to label the ban un-Christian.

Addressing the issue exclusively on Premier Christian Radio's new programme World Monthly, he said: "I've spent hours with President Donald Trump. To say this man does not have Christian morality is most definitely incorrect.

"Donald Trump loves God and not only does he love God but he prays and talks to God in reference to his decisions."

He went on to give further details of the faith of President Trump.

He said: "He didn't just find salvation to win the Presidency.

"I wouldn't call him a deep religious man but does he have a personal relationship with God? Absolutely he does."

Defending the travel ban further, he said: "In reference to the United States positioning under Donald Trump and how it is going to be globally - a stronger America is a stronger world.

"President Obama allowed more Muslims into our country than Christians. Donald Trump recognised that Christians are under attack."

More than 1.6 million people have now signed a petition calling for Donald Trump's state visit to the UK to be cancelled.

On Monday evening, thousands protested outside Downing Street over the treatment of Muslims.
