'Everything is gone': Worship leader Brenton Brown loses home in California fires

The Christian musician, his wife and their two children escaped the blaze in Malibu with only what they could carry - following an order to evacuate.

Family friend and fellow worship leader, Kathryn Scott commented on an Instagram image showing how the property had been burned to the ground.

She said: "This was Brenton Brown's house. We love Brenton and Jude. The California fires destroyed everything they own. Imagine. Everything is gone. Ashes."

More than $5,000 has already been raised by a Gofundme page set up in support of the family on Monday.

Christian singer-songwriter Paul Baloche wrote on Twitter: "Do you know Brenton Brown? Have you sung his songs? Please consider helping in this time of crisis. Thank you!"

Victims - apparently overwhelmed by smoke and flames before they were able to escape - have been found in burned-out cars and the remains of their homes.

Forty-four people across the state have lost their lives in what have become the deadliest wildfires in its history.

Making a donation for the Brown family, Leonie and Hendrik Hattingh said: "We have been blessed by his worship songs. It is his turn to be blessed."
