A pastor in California had an unexpected surprise when Hollywood actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his wife dropped in on his church-run ministry for the homeless.
Matthew Barnett who is pastor of Angelus Temple a Pentecostal megachurch in Los Angeles was in his office at the Dream Center when the former professional boxer and his wife arrived. He said he was studying for a Sunday morning service when a staff member told him that Johnson’s wife, Lauren Hashian, was bringing donations for a pregnant woman who lives on the campus.
When the items arrived, Barnett said he went outside to assist and express gratitude when he noticed Johnson on the phone inside the vehicle.
Johnson leapt up from the back seat to meet him and was said to be keen to meet other people at the centre, which offers resources and transitional housing for those in need, including people overcoming addiction.
Barnett said Johnson engaged in lengthy conversations with a few people including the expectant mother to whom they gave a crib, toys and other items:
“Not only did he treat her like the most important person in the world, he stayed and listened with a heart of extraordinary compassion to her and anyone. I realized that this man not only cares about people’s immediate needs but he cares about their potential. I’m still in awe by his extraordinary humility and the spark of hope that he brings to the world.”
