Deny Communion to Catholic MPs who voted for gay marriage, says Bishop of Portsmouth

The Roman Catholic Bishop of Portsmouth has attracted controversy after suggesting that Catholic MPs who voted for same-sex marriage should be denied Holy Communion. The Rt Revd Philip Egan has said he was not in favour of the MPs receiving communion, but that he would not withhold it, unless other bishops in England and Wales agreed to do so. He told Premier's News Hour all those who go against Church teaching should think carefully before taking the bread and wine.
