'Conclave' wins SAG award for best cast

by Lydia Davies

Vatican thriller Conclave won the SAG Award for Best Cast on Sunday 23rd February, a prize widely regarded as the actor’s equivalent of 'Best Picture' at the Oscars.

The film, which delves into the secretive, behind-closed-doors process of choosing a new pope, has a cast consisting of Ralph Fiennes, Sergio Castellitto, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini.

In his acceptance speech, Ralph Fiennes described the win as a celebration of “community” and stressed its “supreme importance” both in their craft and in the wider world.

The victory, coming just a week before the Academy Awards, has already ignited chatter about Conclave’s potential as a late-breaking contender for best picture—a notion bolstered by the film’s recent BAFTA success.

Isabella Rossellini earlier sent her wishes for a quick recovery to Pope Francis, who is currently hospitalised with a respiratory illness.
