Christian Today reported that the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, said: "We have found that all these incidents were law and order problems. Not a single case was carried out by the majority community ... nor was it of political nature or communal."
Since December 2014 more than six churches have been vandalised, and four Bangladeshis were arrested in connection with the rape of a nun and robbery of a convent last month.
In the last week, the Hindu nationalist politician Sadhvi Deva Thakur called for the Indian government to declare a state of emergency and sterilise Christians and Muslims, and for Hindus to have more children and put their statues in churches and mosques.
Some Christian leaders in India have accused the Prime Minister of not doing enough to protect their religious rights.
Several Muslim and Christian organisations have launched protests against what they see as a growing climate of distrust from Hindus and the situation remains tense in the country.
