Christians urged to pray about climate change during Lent

It's hoped tens of thousands of believers will also call on governments to uphold their pledges on carbon emissions, to help prevent devastating consequences such as rising sea levels and food shortages.

Tearfund is supporting the Renew our World initiative.

Its Advocacy director Paul Cook told Premier he's seen first hand the damage it can do.

He said: "A couple of years ago I was in Bangladesh, working with communities affected by climate change. One of those was on the coast and the inhabitants had seen their homes disappear as the sea levels rose."

"We see the impact of climate change and the effect of the changing envorponment impact on the poorest people around the world. That's why we want people to pray and act on their behalf."

"We are calling on governments to deliver on their committments made on zero carbon emissions at Paris 2015."

"Christians should pray and also get active and contact their local MP."
