At least 36 Christians have been killed in a series of violent attacks on villages in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
The attacks occurred between 24–26 May, according to the Diocese of Makurdi and were reportedly carried out by Fulani militants.
They have left communities devastated and forced many from their homes.
Fr Solomon Atongo, a priest of Jimba Parish, was shot in the leg on his return from a memorial for two priests murdered in 2018.
The attacks spanned multiple locations, including Gwer West and Guma, with indiscriminate shootings resulting in numerous civilian deaths. Among them was a father, teenage son and two-year-old child.
One Mobile Police Officer was also killed.
The Diocese of Makurdi has requested continued prayers for the victims and their families, as well as urgent attention to the growing insecurity affecting Christian communities in the region.
