Christian worker sues CNN for religious discrimination

by Hannah Tooley

Omar Butcher claims he lost his job following harassment after asking colleagues not to 'take the Lord's name in vain' in front of him.

He says he was dismissed after he emailed a news anchor saying he was worried she had asked if society had 'lost a generation' of African Americans, but did not speak about white male violence in the same way.

The Christian associate producer says he was targeted after he had complained about colleagues using language' such as 'Jesus Christ' and 'God damn'.

He has filed a lawsuit against CNN in Atlanta, Georgia.

The DailyMail.com has seen the documents where Mr Butcher describes himself as an African American and devout Christian.

He had worked at CNN from 2010 until he was fired in July 2015.

The Mail says the documents show an email he sent his team asking them not to 'take the Lord's name in vain' when he was around.

Omar Butcher claimed that after his email he felt the language use increased, he believes in attempts to harass him.

He also said he walked out of a meeting because colleagues continued to use the terms, and was later told his behaviour was not appropriate.

CNN did respond to a request for comment.
