Christian school evacuated after California wildfires

by Tola Mbakwe

Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula said on its website that flames "came up to the very edge of the campus access road".

The school's 350 students were asked to go to their own homes or to those of faculty and staff.

The blaze, known as Thomas Fire, started on Monday evening and quickly spread to several homes.

While it caused extensive damage to trees and brush on the campus, it only left minor damage to the school's coffee shop patio.

The threat to the campus has subsided, but it has been left without power and has cancelled classes for the rest of the week.

Thomas Aquinas College has asked for prayers for the safety of all those affected by the fire.
