Christian rapper M.I.A says 'biggest backlash' came after stating faith in Jesus

by Sophie Drew

British rapper Mathangi Arulpragasam – known by her stage name M.I.A – has hit out at people criticising her faith in Christ.

The singer is no stranger to controversy, having spoken out against 5G and Covid-19 vaccines, but believes the harshest criticism she has received came after publically stating her love of Jesus.

Taking to Twitter, she said: “The fact that the biggest backlash in my career and life I’m facing after saying “Jesus is real” is such a revelation to me.

“People who control these apps rather me be a bad girl, then a good one.”

The musician has almot 692,000 followers on the app, and regularly tweets about faith. On Christmas Day she shared a graphic of a deconstructed box made into the symbol of a cross.

In May this year, M.I.A described her spiritual transformation, saying she had a vision of Jesus that convinced her to become a Christian.

Previously, she identified as Hindu, and said she feared her fans would turn against her if they found out about her newfound faith in Jesus.
