Christian husband and NASA engineer has died as a result of a shooting at his apartment complex in Alabama.
According to local police Andrew Gilliam, who was a member of Decatur Baptist Church, was struck by a stray bullet whilst he lay in bed with his wife last week.
The attack, which took place in Huntsville at around 3am, left Gilliam with fatal injuries after a gunman fired through his bedroom window.
Gilliam later succumbed to his injuries and died at Huntsville Hospital on 4th January.
Police say two other apartments were shot into with no reported injuries.
A suspect has not yet been identified.
Following the incident, members of Decatur Baptist Church gathered to pray in a meeting that was broadcast live on social media.
Speaking to the congregation Pastor Joe McKaig said: “Tonight [Andrew] is with the Lord Jesus Christ."
"While we are terribly grief-stricken, he is fine. He is in the arms of his Saviour. And more than fine, he is well."
Friends and family paid tribute to Gilliam’s strong Christian faith, love for Jesus and dedication to the church.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to contribute towards assisting local law enforcement in bringing Gilliam’s killer to justice. The online fundraiser has currently raised over $12,000 (£10,000).
