Christian faith leaders across America and the wider world have been responding to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, with calls for peace and unity.
Franklin Graham
The renowned evangelical preacher, who has been a spiritual advisor to Trump said:
"I thank God that former President @realDonaldTrump is alive."

He shared an image of the former President hunched over, surrounded by security professionals with his face streaked in blood.
In a later post, featuring a statement post by Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social, Franklin Graham continued:
“Former President @realDonaldTrumpreleased a very powerful statement on his Truth Social this morning. He is an amazing man, and he credits GOD ALONE for saving his life.”
The Archbishop of Canterbury
In a statement posted on X, Justin Welby said:
"Today let us pray for the USA, give thanks that President Trump was not seriously hurt, and pray for all those affected by this shocking political violence. Let peace and reconciliation prevail."
Alveda King
Founder of Speak for Life and chair of the Center for the American Dream at America First Policy Institute, Alveda King, is the niece of Martin Luther King Jr. who was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on the 4th April 1968.
She wrote: ​“I grieve today for the hatred that was displayed tonight as an assassination attempt was made on the life of President Trump. I am forever grateful for the brave men and women of the Secret Service.
"My prayers are with President Trump, his family and all of America tonight! It’s time for our nation to commit itself to prayer, forgiveness, nonviolence and unity.”
