Christian in US air force allowed to keep Bible on desk

by Hannah Tooley

There had been a dispute after the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) called for action over the issue.

According to The Christian Institute, it asked for "swift" and "visible" action after US Air Force Major Steve Lewis had a Bible displayed open on his desk.

The Air Force concluded that the major had no abused any liberties and that displaying an Bible on a desk is "well within the provisions" of its regulations on religious expression.

According to the group, pictures taken of the desk show a Bible open on the book of Philippians, with some verses highlighted and underlined.

Steve Lewis removed the Bible after a dispute, saying he did not want to "cause attention or disruption to his unit."

The MRFF complained about the display of Christianity which it say caused "subordinates" to see it each day.
