'Christian faith' helped Bear Grylls through TV controversies

In 2008, the 40-year-old was accused of staying in motels and having scenes set up for him while filming Born Survivor.

While admitting he has made mistakes in the past he says 99 per cent of the claims are untrue. He now insists his shows have 100 per cent transparency.

According to the Mirror, talking about his own religious beliefs in difficult times, he said: "My Christian faith has been a very empowering and important part of my life for sure".

He was speaking ahead of his new six part ITV series, Mission Survive. In the show eight celebrities are taken on a survival challenge.

Olympic champion Kelly Holmes and Rugby World Cup winner Mike Tindall will be seen taking on a host of gruelling challenges.

Reports suggest the contestants are forced to drink their own urine.
