Christian conservatives blare worship music outside Disney World over 'Don't Say Gay' bill

by Sophie Drew

Christian conservatives are protesting outside Disney World, urging the organisation not to "mess" with their children.

The rebuttal comes after Disney spoke out against Florida's controversial "Don't Say Gay" legislation, which would ban discussions surrounding sexual identity in the state's primary schools.

The protest was attended by almost 300 people, taking crowds along Apopka-Vineland Road and into a car park, where Christian worship music was blasted.

The march - organised by TP USA Faith, Mom's for America, and Hold the Line - largely supports the legislation put forward by Florida's politicians, but suggest Disney shouldn't get involved in politics, reports Fox 35.

However, on the other side of the debate, LGBT activists argue that the bill silences young people that may be in desperate need of support, or have questions about their sexual identity.

The issue has attracted attention around the world, with many weighing in on the topic.

Not least of these is US president Joe Biden, who dubbed the legislation "hateful" and said he would "continue to fight for the protections and safety" of young LGBT people.

When the Republican-led legislation was passed through to the State Senate, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said: "Every parent hopes that our leaders will ensure their children's safety, protection, and freedom.

"Today, conservative politicians in Florida rejected those basic values by advancing legislation that is designed to target and attack the kids who need support the most."
