Christian chef hailed over Christmas music stance

by Aaron James

Michael Lugo runs Michael's Tasting Room in St. Augustine, Florida, and found a note scribbled on the back of a receipt by a customer complaining about the music being played.

Lugo posted a picture of the receipt's message on Facebook, expressing his exasperation with the words: "Really...what's wrong with people"

The post has since been shared hundreds of times and had more than 1000 comments - both in support of Lugo and criticising him.

One commenter said: "pretty ridiculous... stick to your guns, Michael... our Father in heaven's approval is way more important than any naysayers... and may the Lord richly bless the work of your hands as a result of your faithfulness in honoring Jesus this Christmas season! thank you.

Another was more blunt, saying: "When did people get so stupid."

However another person questioned whether Lugo created a fake news story by writing the note on the receipt himself, just to get people to argue. He said other reports of similar notes left by customers had emerged in the US recently.

Others wrote their own notes urging him to keep the Christmas music going.

Lugo was invited on Fox News to share his story and told the channel: "I've never seen so encouragement... People are like, please keep it up, thank you for taking a stand.

"To us Christmas is Christmas. I'm a Christian but that's not my agenda. We celebrate things in America. Traditions are what make us special.

"To us it's part of the traditions that keep on getting washed away in America."
