Christian artists among Billboard Music Awards winners, Drake dominates

He joined fellow American Jekalyn Carr in scooping the Top Gospel Artist, seeing off competition from Travis Greene, Tamela Mann and Hezekiah Walker.

The 47 year old from Texas has already won multiple awards, including twelve Grammy Awards.

The Top Christian Artist was scooped by "Come Alive (Dry Bones)" singer Lauren Daigle, who had been shortlisted along with Hillsong Worship, Hillary Scott and the Family, Skillet and Chris Tomlin.

The top winner of the night was rapper Drake (pictured above and below) who took home 13 prizes, beating a previous record of twelve awards given to Adele.

The 30 year old Canadian won accolades including Top Male Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album.

The ceremony at the T-Mobile Arena marked a disappointing night for British awards, with the only prizes going to Zayn Malik and Coldplay, for best new artist and top rock tour respectively.

Cher received an icon award, just days after turning 71 while a moment of silence was held for Audioslave and Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell who died last week at the age of 52.

The majority of prizes were determined by song sales over the past twelve months, streaming, radio airplay, touring and social media interactions as tracked by the entertainment brand, Billboard.
