Catholic brother arrested in Australia

David Standen, 65, was arrested at Sydney Airport on August 19 by officers investigating claims related to the 1970s and 80s.

It's claimed he abused five 12-year old boys at St Patrick's College in Goulburn whilst working as a teacher at the school.

After appearing in court he was released on bail under the condition he checks in with a police station five days a week and gives up his passport.

He's due back in court on September 17.

He was a member of the Christian Brothers Oceania.

Spokesman for the organisation, Brother Peter Clinch, told the Sydney Morning Herald: "These are serious allegations which are now rightly before the courts,' Brother Clinch told the Herald.

"It is important that we respect the judicial process now under way and make no statement that could undermine it."
