The actor known for playing the Son of God in the hit biblical drama The Chosen is set to meet the Pope alongside other cast members.

Jonathan Roumie — who is a practicing Christian — has been in Italy for a screening of an upcoming episode from the latest season.

The 50-year-old star was joined by his co-stars, including Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene), George Xanthis (St. John the Apostle), and Vanessa Benavente (Mary, Mother of God).

They are scheduled to meet Pope Leo during his general audience in St. Peter’s Square on Wednesday.

Season five of The Chosen is set to premiere in July on Amazon Prime, alongside the first four seasons.

The multi-season historical drama portrays Jesus Christ’s life and ministry through the eyes of those around him, depicting the recruitment of disciples, Jesus’ miracles, and the growing tensions with religious and Roman authorities. The latest season focuses on the Last Supper and the betrayal by Judas.

So far, the series has been viewed by 280 million people worldwide.

"Coming to the Vatican is always an honor," Roumie told reporters at a press conference in Rome. "The possibility of getting to meet the newest pontiff is extraordinary."

The cast has just completed filming for the sixth season, which will depict the final days of Christ’s life on earth. The series was filmed in the Italian town of Matera, whose landscape closely resembles that of Jerusalem. Catholic director and actor Mel Gibson also used the town for his 2004 film on the crucifixion, The Passion of the Christ.
