Billy Graham film to go on UK Netflix

by Cara Bentley

It will be the first time the film 'Extraordinary Journey' has been made available in the UK and follows his life from a farm boy to preaching to millions.

Billy Graham (1918-2018) was a world-famous evangelical preacher, most well-known for his passion for preaching the gospel at his Crusades.

The 72 minute video features rare footage and interviews with presidents, celebrities, family and close friends and was first aired in March 2018 on Fox Broadcasting.

It also covers a variety of historical events that occurred in his 99 years, including the Civil Rights Movement and 9/11.

Lee Searle, UK Director of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), said Graham would have approved: "He had a passion to see the Gospel shared by all means necessary. He pioneered the use of radio, 'streamed' his UK festivals down phone lines and was a regular on TV.

"It makes sense that we embrace Netflix and other streaming services to share the Good News."

Searle added that the decision to upload the film is to reach people who aren't as aware of him as their grandparents: "There is a place for the traditional methods"

"But we've seen a huge shift in the way people engage with the BGEA in the UK. We know that there is an audience out there, especially of younger people, who spend most of their viewing time on these subscription platforms".

Twelve classic Billy Graham sermons have recently been made available on Netflix's competitor Amazon Prime, all about half an hour long, on topics such as materialism, the end of the world and heaven.

The BGEA team are hoping that the release of 'Extraordinary Journey' will point people to Christianity, rather than just lead them to admire Graham.

"Increasingly, many many people are turning to the internet to search for Jesus", Seale said. "We've seen it become a key part of our ministry here at the BGEA and as a result have seen hundreds of thousands reached across the globe...including in countries where the Gospel isn't freely available".

"Releasing this film on Netflix is going to bless a lot of people".
