Best-selling author of 'Experiencing God' dies aged 88

Renowned Canadian pastor and author Henry Blackaby, best known for his transformative Bible study Experiencing God, passed away at the age of 88.

The influential Southern Baptist pastor and leader was founder and president emeritus of Blackaby Ministries International. His son Richard announced his father’s death via a social media post.

Blackaby Ministries International (BMI) confirmed his passing, noting that he departed to be with his Lord on Saturday, with a funeral service planned for 25h February at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Georgia.

"He helped countless people experience God. Now he is experiencing God in ways that surely surpass even his most cherished dreams. He left behind an enormous spiritual legacy," stated BMI.

Blackaby's impactful journey included revitalising Faith Baptist Church in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and serving as a pastor in both the United States and Canada. His seminal work, Experiencing God, published in 1990 by Lifeway, reached millions worldwide, with approximately 8 million copies sold across various editions.

"Lifeway sends the Blackaby family our sincere condolences as they remember the life and ministry of this godly man," Lifeway President and CEO Ben Mandrell said.

Franklin Graham, head of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, paid tribute to Blackaby as "a great Bible teacher and author" whose influence will endure through his teachings.

Reflecting on his father's legacy, Mel Blackaby, senior pastor at FBC Jonesboro, praised his exemplary life and the countless testimonies of lives transformed by his writings.

Blackaby's impact transcended borders, with translations of Experiencing God reaching over 60 languages and radio programs disseminating the message globally.

Despite health challenges, including a heart attack in 2013, Blackaby's unwavering commitment to sharing God's truth remained steadfast, inspiring generations of believers worldwide. His memory lives on through his family, his ministry, and the countless lives touched by his teachings.
