Baptist woman becomes world's oldest person

Mother of six Violet Mosse-Brown has attended the same church on the Caribbean island for decades, according to local media reports.

She has served as an organist, choir director, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Trittonville Baptist Church in Duanvale, north western Jamaica.

According to the Jamaica Baptist Reporter, a celebration of her, then, 116 years old life was held by local churches in January 2017.

It said: "[T]he guest of honor was lauded and cited as a person of exemplary character and an ardent, dedicated and faithful servant of God, who served her church for more than 80 years in varying capacities.

"She was also hailed as a mentor, historian, disciplinarian, businesswoman, outstanding church and community leader."

Born on 30th March 1900, Mosse-Brown has been a widow since losing her husband Augustus in 1978.

Speaking with the Jamaican publication, the Gleaner, she said: "Really and truly, when people ask what me eat and drink to live so long, I say to them that I eat everything, except pork and chicken, and I don't drink rum and dem tings."
