Banished bishops leading campaign against Pope

by Aaron James

Jean-Michel Faure, 73, says Pope Francis has devised a "new religion", saying: "We follow the popes of the past, not the current one," according the The Times newspaper.

"If there is another world war, maybe the church will go back to the way it was before." A member of the monastery where Jean-Michael Faure is staying in Brazil added: "The Pope is less Catholic than us," he said.

Mr Faure was ordained by Richard Williamson, who was kicked out of the church for denying the extent of the Holocaust, around two weeks ago. Mr Williamson has called the new church he's trying to establish, starting with Mr Faure, "The Resistance".

Richard Williamson's ordination of Jean-Michel Faure prompted both men to be banished from the Catholic church.

It's the second time Richard Williamson has been excommunicated. In 1988, he was banished when he was ordained into a breakaway Catholic group called the Society of St Pius X (SSPX).

Pope Benedict XVI readmitted Mr Williamson to the Catholic church in 2009, causing upset amongst Jews given Holocaust denial.

Mr Williamson was thrown out of the order in 2012, prompting him to start his own rebel Catholic group.

The Vatican does not recognise members of SSPX as being priests or having any authority to conduct ministry.
