Depiction of Jesus' face criticised as 'resembling fish and chip grease stains'

An artist’s impression of Jesus has baffled churchgoers in Spain, by resembling chip shop grease stains.

The portrait of Christ was commissioned by a church in Seville, as its Lent poster. Its intention was to resemble the patterns of religious icons such as the Turin Shroud and the holy Veil of Veronica. It features organic shapes, resembling the shadow of Christ’s face.

Artist Gonzalo Quesada told National World: "It is a tribute to the ability to find Christ in every detail of our daily life, reminding us that He is always with us. Christ is present in the everyday moments of our lives, even in something as simple as a meal with friends."
