Aid workers celebrated

by Hannah Tooley

World Vision is asking people to think of those who take huge personal risks to help others around the world facing crises.

Johan Eldebo, Senior Humanitarian Adviser at World Vision, told Premier the world can look a very different place depending on where you stand: "I think when you go out one of the things that distracts you is the contrast of what life can look like a plane ride away from here.

"You can stand Thursday in a refugee camp, and on Saturday you can be walking across Waterloo Bridge, and that contrast can be quite difficult."

He has worked in countries from South Sudan to Burundi and emphasised that change in environment is one of the big issues that aid workers have to deal with: "But having that connection back to whatever your normality looks like is really important, to be able to maintain that link between life as we have it here and life as it looks like out there, to realise that the world can look very, very different from different perspectives, but it's still the same planet."

Johan Eldebo stressed that more people, around 61 million, are displaced now than during the Second World War.

A Monthly Gift Of $11 Makes A World Of Difference

In a world of fake news there’s never been a greater need for quality Christian journalism. Premier’s mission is to provide the Church with the most up to date and relevant news, told from a Christian perspective. But we can’t do it without you.

Unlike many websites we haven't put up a paywall — we want to keep our journalism free at the point of need and as open as we can. Premier’s news output takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. No one in the USA is sharing news like we are across radio, magazines and online so please help us to continue that today.

For a monthly gift of $11 or more we’d also be able to send you a free copy of the brand new Premier Bible, a wonderful Anglicised version of the NLT packed with exclusive bonus content, reading plan and resources to help you get the most out of scripture.

Your monthly support will make a world of difference. Thank you.
