37 Assyrian Christians freed from IS in Syria

by Hannah Tooley

It is thought that they were abducted in February in the Hasakah province.

The Assyrian Human Rights Network, which monitors the situtation in the country since 215 people were taken by Islamic State (IS) earlier in the year. (Gramatical issue with this sentence. Have they only been monitoring since those people were taken, or have they always monitored things in Syria?)

Al Jazeera has reported that everyone released appears to be in decent health.

The Assyrian Human Rights Network said: "Most of the Assyrians released are of old age.

"They have arrived in Tal Tamer on a bus and were welcomed by the priest of the Saints Church in Tal Tamer in Hasakah province."

It claims that: "At least 215 civilians were abducted by ISIL on February 23, 2015. So far 88 have been released and negotiations are ongoing to release the rest."

Since the conflict began in Syria Christians have been forced to flee and hundreds from different religions have been abducted or killed.
