A recent survey has revealed that young adults are significantly more likely than older generations to feel thankful to God and experience feelings of awe and wonder.

The report, Grateful Britain?, published on the 24th December, shows that 42 per cent of 18- to 34-year-olds feel thankful to God, compared to just 22 per cent of those aged 55 and above.

The survey, commissioned by the Policy Institute at King’s College London, also found that this age group is more likely to report feelings of awe at the universe or nature, with 36 per cent saying they experience such emotions weekly. This compares to just 27 per cent of the overall population.

One in five young people (22 per cent) said they felt deeply thankful to be alive at least once a week. The report suggests that a growing sense of spirituality and religious curiosity is emerging among young adults, with many seeking meaning and purpose in their lives.

Debbie Clinton of the Church of England said: “We’re seeing young adults newly attending church with a hunger for authentic faith and purpose.”

The full survey results were drawn from a national Opinium poll of 2050 UK adults.
