'You Only Pope Once', America prepares for Pope

by Hannah Tooley

Memorabilia is expected to include everything from key rings, to 'bobble heads', fridge magnets, T-shirts, mugs and masks, adorned with 'YOPO' - You Only Pope Once.

Toasters are even being sold that burn the image of the Pope into toast and special mozzarella cheese has been created to show Pope Francis' face.

Special Pope beer is also being brewed, called 'No Pope 'til Brookland'.

A priest in Philadelphia has also blessed vats of 'Papal Pleasure' beer.

Owner of Royal Bobbleheads, a company that designs plastic figures, Warren Royal, said: "People seem to form a personal connection with this figure."

Speaking in The Independent he said his bobblehead of the Pontiff has reduced the head size by 30 per cent so "it's not so cartoonish."

So far almost 10,000 have been sold for $25 (around £16 each).

The Archdiocese of Washington, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, has commissioned several lines in English and Spanish.

A pop-up Pope shop is also being installed at venues with more than 150 staff and volunteers.

Pope Franics is expected to visit the U.S. in September and stop off at Washington D.C., New York and Philadelphia.
