Popular U.S. talent show American Idol is marking Easter Sunday with a primetime worship-themed special featuring leading Christian artists and faith-filled performances.
Airing on 20th April, the three-hour Songs of Faith episode will see all 20 remaining contestants sing gospel and worship songs in front of a live audience.
Among the guests are Grammy-winner CeCe Winans, worship leader Brandon Lake, and gospel group The Brown Four.
The night will also include a performance of Hard Fought Hallelujah, a recent collaboration between Lake and music artist Jelly Roll.
Judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood will also take the stage.
Faith has been a recurring theme in the current season.
Contestants like Canaan Hill and Baylee Littrell have been open about their Christian beliefs, while Monday night’s show featured a powerful rendition of Lake’s hit Gratitude by Breanna Nix and Rylie O'Neill.
Moved by their performance, judge Carrie Underwood said, “I know how difficult it is to come into the entertainment industry and bring your faith with you… I want to tell you that I'm proud of you guys.”
Lake, appearing via FaceTime, praised their cover as “the most gorgeous version of ‘Gratitude’ I've ever heard.”
For US residents, voting for the top contestants will open immediately following the Easter broadcast.
