Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger has announced his decision to join the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) following his conversion to Christianity.

Previously a long-time skeptic, Sanger, a former philosophy professor, publicly shared his faith in February, describing a gradual journey to belief that began in 2019 with Bible reading and a quiet return to God in 2020.

In a recent blog post, Sanger explained his decision to align with the theologically conservative ACNA, emphasizing his commitment to the authority of Scripture.

“Sola Scriptura is the fundamental reason I could not embrace Catholicism or Orthodoxy,” he wrote. “The Bible is our only reliable source of information about God.”

While Sanger expressed respect for Christians from various traditions, he criticized what he described as a “dumbed-down Church” in some evangelical circles and praised Anglicanism for its theological depth and reverence in worship.

“Anglicans take their liturgy seriously,” he said. “Defined by the classic Book of Common Prayer, it is beautiful and inspiring. It ought to be so for any Christian.”

After years of spiritual searching, Sanger says he has found a home. “There are no perfect denominations. Yet I have concluded, not reluctantly but enthusiastically, that the ACNA is the best place for me.”
