Jeremy Marshall, the banker and philanthropist has died following a lengthy battle with cancer.

The 60 year old was surrounded by family and died peacefully on Sunday.

Marshall spent his career in the financial industry ending up as CEO of Hoare’s Bank, the UK’s oldest private wealth fund.

Despite his working successes, it was his Christian faith which drove him.

During his almost decade-long illness he committed his life to evangelistic projects, supporting movements such as Word One to One, and authored a book about Hope. He also helped purchase Kingdom Bank, which supports churches and Christian organisations across the UK.

Paying tribute on premierchristianity.com, Graham Miller, CEO of London City Mission said: "Jeremy was a faithful servant of God who used his gifts and resources to advance God's kingdom. When he was diagnosed with a rare form of terminal cancer in 2013, he did not succumb to self-pity or despair. Instead, he launched a second career as a senior statesman of the UK’s evangelical movement.

"He achieved much more in his ten years of illness than most of us will in our entire lives."

Writing on social media, Glen Scrivener, the author and evangelist said: "Jeremy Marshall: a complete one-off! What a saint, what a servant, what an inspiration! We didn't deserve to have him."

Gavin Calver, CEO of the Evangelical Alliance said: "Another elder statesperson within UK evangelicalism has gone home to be with the Lord. So sad to hear of the passing of Jeremy Marshall, who was an amazing man.

"Praying for all his friends & family as they grieve his passing. What a legacy he leaves behind in so many lives."
