Faith leaders across Wales have thrown their support behind the Senedd ahead of its new term, and emphasised the impact church groups have on community life. 

The interfaith letter was signed by Catholic Archbishop Mark O'Toole and Anglican Archbishop Cherry Vann, along with Jewish, Muslim and Sikh leaders. 

"As faith leaders, we know something of the personal cost of public life you have embraced," it reads. "Thank you for your willingness and desire to work for the common good of all the people of Wales."

The leaders called this moment in time one of "significant tension across the United Kingdom". 

"Many of our communities live with some fear for themselves and especially their children," they stated. "We uphold the innate dignity of every person, believing that all are to be treated with the utmost respect." 

The letter comes as a Gather Movement report claims that churches provide a quarter of a million community support projects across the UK each week. 

The leaders recognised the "huge contribution" of faith groups, adding: "In education, healthcare and a diverse range of services... places of worship act as important 'hubs' of social outreach and integration." 

"We look forward to the opportunities we will have of sharing this story of public service with you," the letter concludes. "We also look forward to deepening our relationships of cooperation, mutual understanding and acceptance, so that we can work together for the good of all in Wales."
