Nigeria's drug regulatory agency has issued a warning to the public against purchasing "miracle" items peddled by popular televangelist, Jeremiah Fufeyin.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) highlighted that products like "miracle water" and "River Jordan water," marketed with claims of possessing "bogus" healing abilities, including curing infertility in women, lack NAFDAC's endorsement.
In response to these allegations, Mr Fufeyin's Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry said it complied with the law and was using "spiritual items" as an expression of faith. Nigerian law permits freedom of religion without governmental intrusion.
NAFDAC received complaints from the public about the ‘holy water’. The church has a substantial online following, including over 639,000 YouTube subscribers.
The church denied avoiding collaboration with NAFDAC, noting it had reached out to the agency in writing.
